what is the difference between full metal alchemist and full metal alchmist :brotherhood?

i have noticed that there is another set of Full Metal Alchemist series… and thelittle bit of episode tells me that it is the same people… im wondering the differences… is it darker? is it fill ins for open timelines in the first?

Full Metal Alchemist follows the manga in the begining but as the series progressed it develops into a new show and also it has its own end.Adventure of Elric Brothers ends in 51 episodes and one movie where as Brotherhood follows the Manga and there r lots of differences in both animes like(Spoilers so if u dont want to know than please dont read them)

—Greed killed by Father in Brotherhood whereas in first series he was killed by Ed.
—Lust was killed by Wrath(I guess that was the name of that little boy)whereas in BH she was killed by Roy Mustang
—in series one Homunculus can only be killed when there is the corpse of thing from which alchemist made them(during human transmutation)whereas in series two they can be killed by killing them for multiple times(like Lust).
—in series One Dante was the main villain(anime only character)where as in BH its Father in the lead
—in series one it was shown that humunculus were created by Alchmeist whereas in BH they were created by Father with the help of Philloshpher Stones.
—Some characters were not in first series like Xing,Fu and Lang Fan.
—in series one it was shown the Rockbells(Winry’s Parents)were killed by Roy Mustang during Ishbal war to stop them for giving there help to Ishbalans(although he unwillingly done that due to orders)whereas in series two they were killed by Scar.

To be honest I like Brotherhood more than the first series and its getting better and better every week.
